In 2014, on a stretch of desert outside Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, the Ragasthan Music Festival ran for 24 hours with no internet, no backup systems, and no second chances. AtomX built a working NFC contactless payment system from scratch, on sand, in real time. That instinct — build for the hardest conditions first — has shaped everything since.

The Beginning (2012)

AtomX was founded in 2012 with a simple observation: live events were becoming larger, more complex, and more experience-driven, but the operational systems behind them remained fragmented, cash-heavy, and difficult to manage.

At a time when most event organisers relied on manual processes, cash transactions, paper vouchers, and disconnected systems, AtomX set out to build technology that could simplify and modernize event operations.

The company's early focus was on creating secure, reliable transaction systems for high-volume environments where speed, transparency, and operational control were critical.

Building India's Cashless Event Ecosystem

Years before NFC contactless payments became mainstream in India, AtomX introduced RFID and NFC-based payment systems to live events — giving attendees a digital wallet on their RFID wristband or RFID card that worked as a tap and pay system across every vendor stall, bar, and entry gate.

This allowed attendees to:

  • Make faster purchases with one tap — no cash, no card, no wait
  • Load funds into a secure digital wallet before or during the event
  • Use contactless payment across food, drinks, and merchandise in under one second
  • Move through entry gates without queues or paper tickets

For event organisers, it created something even more valuable:

  • Real-time transaction visibility across every vendor and stall
  • Reduced revenue leakage with zero cash handling
  • Faster reconciliation with automated end-of-event reports
  • Better vendor management through live sales and inventory data
  • Improved operational control from a single dashboard

As the live events industry evolved, AtomX became one of the earliest event technology companies helping Indian event organisers transition from cash-heavy operations to data-driven experiences — replacing cash floats with digital wallets and NFC payments at every counter.

From NFC Contactless Payments to a Full Event Operations Platform

As events grew more sophisticated, event organisers faced challenges that extended far beyond transactions. They needed solutions for entry management and access control, crowd movement and gate flow, VIP and zone-based access, vendor operations and inventory, and real-time reporting and revenue intelligence.

AtomX responded by expanding from a contactless payment company into a complete event operations platform. Over time, the company developed four core solutions.

NFC Contactless Payments

RFID and NFC contactless payments — tap and pay systems for festivals, concerts, sports events, and venues. Every rupee tracked, fully offline-ready, completing transactions in under one second.

Access Control System

A secure, real-time access control system with NFC and QR-based entry validation, anti-passback logic, and multi-zone management across general entry, VIP areas, and backstage zones.

Real-Time Analytics Dashboard

A live command centre — the real-time dashboard — giving event organisers instant visibility into sales, attendance, vendor performance, and crowd movement while the event is still running.

Event Intelligence

Data systems that help event organisers make faster decisions before, during, and after events — from inventory forecasting to post-event reconciliation.

Growth Through Live Experiences

Over the past decade, AtomX has become deeply embedded in India's live entertainment industry, powering NFC contactless payments and access control systems for event organisers across every format — music festivals, concerts and stadium shows, sports events, food and beverage festivals, cultural gatherings, and large-scale public events.

The BookMyShow Chapter

BookMyShow made a strategic investment in AtomX in April 2019 to enable NFC contactless payments through cards, wristbands, and keychains across BookMyShow Live events.

The partnership reinforced a shared belief: the future of live entertainment would depend not only on ticketing, but on what happens after attendees enter the venue — the tap and pay experience at the bar, the access control system at the gate, the real-time dashboard the event organiser is watching throughout the night.

BookMyShow's investment helped validate what AtomX had been building since 2012: that on-ground event infrastructure, NFC contactless payments, access control systems, and real-time data were not optional features but essential pillars of any large-scale live experience. This relationship helped strengthen AtomX's position within India's growing experience economy and enabled the company to continue investing in technology, scale, and innovation.

The Philosophy Behind AtomX

At its core, AtomX was never built to be a payments company. It was built around a larger idea: great experiences happen when technology disappears.

Attendees should focus on the music. The infrastructure should be the part nobody notices.

Attendees should focus on the music, the performance, the celebration, or the moment. Event organisers should focus on creating unforgettable experiences. AtomX — the NFC contactless payments, the access control system, the real-time dashboard — handles everything in between.

Since 2012, AtomX has been building the infrastructure layer behind live experiences — helping event organisers move faster, operate smarter, and create better moments for millions of people around the world.
